Turning 70

What is on my mind? What is knowing? Is there an Epistemology machine surrounding our awareness? From Descart—I think, therefore I am–to the advance of science through a phase of absurdity, what is proved and what is believed? Discover the contest between Einstein and Neils Bohr and then reflect Alfred Lord Tennyson’s phrase, “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.” I don’t know what I don’t know! As I turn 70 today I release these speculations and pondering to my long-deceased mother, Helen, who I shall join sooner than later. As I learned in sailing, God provides the wind, I am responsible for the sails, sheets, lines and helm—but even there lies a question of final sovereignty.catboat
